Are Winter Allergies Giving You the Blues?

The truth is winter allergies and their causes are often the same as what you experience during the summer. Common winter allergy symptoms are watery nasal secretions, itchy eyes and throat, and symptoms that persist for weeks.

The biggest causes of these allergies are typically mold, pet dander, dust mites, perfume, and even Christmas trees.  As winter quickly approaches be on the lookout for the following winter allergy causes:

Furnaces: With the recent change of mild autumn conditions to the brisk winter cold it’s time to turn the furnace on. For the last few months that furnace has been sitting idle with mold, pollen and dust mites building up. The first time you turn that furnace on those materials will be circulated throughout the house.

Animals: It turns out, your pet’s have the same reaction to the cold as you do; dry skin. When the weather turns cold your pet get’s dry skin and that skin sheds in the form of pet dander. When that dander goes airborne, you or your family will likely inhale that dander and your allergies will begin to act up.

Food allergies: Are you out and about bouncing from holiday party to holiday party? If so, watch what you are eating. If you feel like your allergies are out of whack, there’s a good chance that peanut brittle, shrimp cocktail (shellfish), eggnog, or something with wheat is to blame.

Christmas tree’s: Yes there’s a chance that your Christmas tree is causing some type of allergic reaction. Though you probably aren’t allergic to your Christmas tree, the odds are good that your tree is carrying mold and pollen that is affecting you.

The biggest symptoms of your allergy problems are coughing, dark circles under the eyes, itchy eyes and nose, runny nose, sneezing, and watery eyes. Typically allergies symptoms linger for a week or longer while a common cold typically comes and goes very quickly.
